Recent events notwithstanding, New York remains the perfect site for the 8th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery. The city reflects the ideals of endoscopic surgery and the nature of our surgeons. As a world capital, it is forward thinking, energetic, persevering, productive and congenial. There is absolutely no place like New York, and there is nothing like a World Congress for minimal access surgeons.
Creating the 8th World Congress has been a truly ecumenical effort. My partner in chairing the Congress is Antonio Lacy of Barcelona, to whom I owe a debt of gratitude for his enormous work. Each Postgraduate Course is Co-Chaired by a surgeon from the U.S. and a surgeon from another continent. All of our sister Societies have played vital roles in structuring the program, topics, and tone of the Congress. The program committee consists of surgeons from 19 countries. These are full partners in the task of setting the agenda, reviewing the abstracts and creating what we believe will be the greatest and most versatile faculty ever assembled to present these topics.
To provide more opportunities for hands on learning, we invited the best institutions in New York to host and operate hands on courses immediately prior to the Congress, thus making available up to 300 slots for hands on learning of new techniques.
Here is what to expect at the 8th World Congress:
World's leading endoscopic surgery faculty who share practice tips and expertise.
An international learning center to help you learn and practice what you've heard in the lecture hall.
An exhibit hall with THE latest tools, equipment and techniques.
Presentation of cutting edge scientific papers.
Stimulating discussions of controversies and current research.
Postgraduate courses that help improve your practice and skills.
Fabulous social events that reflect the best of New York and the U.S.
A well run meeting with efficient registration and helpful staff.
Whether this is your first SAGES-hosted meeting or your tenth, you will feel at home. Make the decision now to join us in New York, March 13-16, 2002 for the 8th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery!
Sincerely,
Lee L. Swanstrom, MD
