2012 SAGES Meeting Information

SAGES Mini Medical School & Interactive Experience Boot Camp

SAGES 2012

Saturday, March 10, 2012
8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Chair: James Butch Rosser, MD

Under the direction of Dr. James Rosser, SAGES is debuting an exciting new program, SAGES Mini Med School.

High school students from the San Diego and Los Angeles area and SAGES membership have the opportunity to experience the wonderful world of medicine and minimally invasive surgery. With projected physician and surgeon shortages in the future, this program is timely and hopefully will promote early decisions to join our noble profession. The day is power packed with classroom lectures, tours of the technology-laden Learning Center and Exhibit Hall and the grand finale Top Gun Interactive Experience. This is based on the same format that allowed Dr. Rosser to win the Governor's Award for Education in Mississippi in 2011. Both cognitive and skill competitions with awards and prizes will be offered. It truly is designed to be an experience that may change the lives of students.

The program is of no charge to the students but there are only 100 spots available and each student has to send in a letter of support from teaching or counselor staff at their school. Download a simple student registration form and submit to SAGES by March 9, 2012 to guarantee your spot in the boot camp. Students must submit to their teacher/counselor to fill in their statement of support and then forward to SAGES via email to minimedschool@sages.org or fax to 310-437-0585, attn: SAGES Mini Med School.

Selected students will be notified if they have been chosen to attend. Parents are responsible to get their children to the program and back home. Lunch will be served. The students will receive a certificate of participation as well as the possibility of winning special recognition awards.  Download the student application form here.

We also have School Support Letter available to download, you can share with high schools that may be interested in promoting this to their students.

Interactive Experience:

This is a power packed hour that will allow the students to show that they have the "right stuff" to join the ranks of laparoscopic surgeons one day. From video games that help decrease errors, to robotic helicopters to FLS and Top Gun drills, this will be a grand finale to the SAGES Mini Med School experience.
